BITAL studies the effects on human health of anthropogenic alterations in the Earth’s natural systems in order to seek solutions to improve people’s health on a global scale within the limits of the planet. We adopt an interdisciplinary approach to analyse not only the biological and environmental causes of diseases but also their social and economic causes, which often drive changes in natural systems. Environmental equity and justice are also cross-cutting themes in our research.
